This Frank Foster arrangement was first performed by Diane Schuur and
The Count Basie Orchestra. It’s a sizzling vocal number featuring Patty
McKay.
Summertime:
A unique Latin treatment of the Gershwin classic. Gary Hill’s arrangement
features James Bazen on flute.
There
Is No Greater Love:
A piano feature in the Basie style arranged by James Bazen. Tight horn
riffs answered by swinging drum fills make this a strong arrangement of
the jazz classic.
Tonight He’s Mine:
Another Bazen arrangement. Vocalist Debbie Macfarlan sings this dreamy
bossa nova that develops into a hot samba. Check out the trombone solo
by former Airmen Of Note trombonist Doug Elliot.
Syeeda’s
Song Flute:
A great rendition of the Coltrane classic arranged and performed by Kellogg
Johnson.
Willow
Weep For Me:
The sultry voice of Patty McKay ignites this bluesy standard arranged
by Matt Harris.
Danny The Samba Boy:
Bazen’s refreshing arrangement of the Irish war horse. It features a traditional
intro that goes into a driving Latin beat. Bazen is featured on clarinet.
Stranger Things:
James Bazen first released this original as the title cut on his first
CD. This rockin’ rearrangement explores the tunes full potential including
a screaming sax solo by James Bazen, a driving keyboard solo, and an "in
your face" guitar solo.
I Could Write A Book:
This swinging arrangement by Gary Hill comfortably frames Patty McKay’s
vocals to perfection.
The
Funky Little
Drummer Boy:
James Bazen’s intense treatment of the Christmas tune. Majestic brass!
Wild solos! And, of course, frenetic drums! All
to a Cajun beat.
Chillin’: A laid back blues original by Bazen reminiscent of Count Basie’s "Sunday Morning At The Savoy" with lazy solos and "feel good" horns!
