He’s Mine" Is Released
The reviews are all very positive. The stations
are especially excited about the radio friendly vocal tracks
("You Can Have It," "Tonight He’s Mine," "Willow Weep For
Me," and "I Could Write A Book") as well as the unusual treatment
of the traditional Irish tune "Danny Boy" renamed "Danny The
Samba Boy," and "Chillin’," a slow blues.
The date showcases James Bazen’s arranging which
balances intricate ensemble work with unrestricted blowing
by the some of DC’s finest soloists. The CD also features
the vocal acrobatics of Patty McKay and Debbie Macfarlan.
Macfarlan’s Wammy (Washington Area Music Association) winning
song "Tonight He’s Mine," arranged by Bazen, is the title
cut.
Also featured are two tunes arranged by pianist
Gary Hill ("Summertime" and "I Could Write A Book") and one
arranged by tenor saxophonist Kellogg Johnson ("Syeeda’s Song
Flute").
The selections cover a wide range of styles
from low down blues ("Chillin’," and "Willow Weep For Me")
to Latin ("Summertime") to avant garde ("The Funky Little
