The "Alte Kameraden" (the "Old Comrades"), organized in 1977, preserve the musical heritage and fest spirit of Bavarian village bands. The ensemble is an authentic "blasmusik" (brass band) that performs the music of German and Austrian "dorfkapellen" village bands.
Alte Kameraden appears yearly at civic events, festivals, private parties and, of course, Oktoberfests. Some of these include the German and Japanese embassies, the American-Austrian Society, the Northern Virginia Folk Festival, the Maryland Ethnic Heritage Festival, Baltimore's annual German-American Festival and the German vs. Brazil international soccer match at Washington's RFK Stadium.
In 1990, Alte Kameraden was honored with the Federal Republic of Germany's Friendship Award.
